What Does The Bible Say About Labor?

Quotes are from the RSV Catholic Edition or the Douay-Rheims

Ecclesiasticus 40:18 – The life of a labourer that is content with what he hath, shall be sweet, and in it thou shalt find a treasure.

Ecclesiasticus 51:35, 38 – Behold with your eyes how I have laboured a little, and have found much rest to myself. […] Work your work before the time, and he will give you your reward in his time.

Ephesians 4:28 – Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his hands, so that he may be able to give to those in need.

2 Thessalonians 3:8, 10-12 – we did not eat any one’s bread without paying, but with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not burden any of you. […]  For even when we were with you, we gave you this command: If any one will not work, let him not eat. For we hear that some of you are living in idleness, mere busybodies, not doing any work. Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work in quietness and to earn their own living. Brethren, do not be weary in well-doing.
